Capping an FPS in a game prevents the graphics from glitching out and potentially ruining your gaming session.

The graphics are critical in games like Skyrim, where they provide an immersive experience in exploring the game’s vast landscape.

In this article, we’ll go over everything you need to know about capping FPS in Skyrim. Continue reading to find out more.

Why Is The FPS In Skyrim Limited?

You may be curious as to why you would ever put any restrictions on a game like Skyrim.

It is because this game is so large, it may cause problems with many PCs. According to Bethesda, a framerate of much more than 60 FPS can cause physics issues in the game.

Capping your framerate has additional advantages, such as:

  • Cutting down on your battery consumption
  • Lowering heat production
  • Noise reduction

Capping the framerate is highly effective for laptop users because it keeps you from draining your battery. If the frame rate is typically between 55 and 75 frames per second, capping at 60 FPS would then reduce those rotating body moments while you feel like you’re not making any progress.

Setting up a Hard Limit

Setting up a hard limit on the Nvidia Profile Inspector program is one option. Frame Rate Limiter could be found underneath the Sync and Refresh option. You can type in any number you want here. If you input 60 FPS, you’ll get 3C in hex, which is fine.

In the upper right corner, select Apply Changes. Remember that you’ll need the most current edition of the Nvidia profile inspector for this. Fortunately, you have the option of setting the limit per program or global basis.

Simply select The elder scrolls V as a choice if you only want to cap Skyrim. Throughout the game, you also can enable VSYNC. You will not have to place a manual cap if you already have VSYNC enabled.

There is another option in the in-game menu to enable the Frame Limiter in any FPS you desire.

Should You Ever Increase Your Frame Rate?

For certain gamers, understanding how to cap FPS through Skyrim is only one piece of the puzzle. If you have a powerful Windows PC and just want to see how much your game can do at full throttle, you should consider using a mod.

SlavicPotato, an elder scrolls V mod tool, released a screen resolution unlocking mod that enables users to access relatively high framerates. It is a risky strategy because you are pressuring your computer to do a tremendous amount of work. However, when you know your PC is capable of handling it, you can always give it a shot.

The advantage of this mod would be that it operates in the background in a nice way. The service changes the refresh rate of your in-game graphics from almost 60 Hz to about 300 Hz.

Other Effective Ways To Cap FPS In Skyrim

There are few effective ways to cap FPS Skyrim, including:

1. The V-Sync Technology

Vertical synchronization is the simplest and most practical way of capping FPS in every game, including Skyrim. It helps to lower the game’s frame rate to reflect the highest refresh rate of your monitor.

For instance, if the monitor has only a refresh rate of 60Hz, V-sync would then decrease the game’s frame rate to 60 FPS to match. Users used V-Sync technology to remove screen tearing in the past.

Screen-tearing is a circumstance in which lines or cuts appear in the game’s image. The game generally has two frames segregated by a line that appears for a brief moment.

2. FPS Limiter in-game

The second way for capping a game’s FPS is to use the in-game FPS limiter.

Since it limits the game engine from within, this is a very effective tool that allows you to decrease FPS to your preferred numbers without danger of lag.

How to Control your Skyrim Refresh Rate.

Even though Skyrim can run at over 60 frames per second, most players should consider avoiding raising this number by too much. Plus, the Bethesda programmers advise against doing so. Even if you have a powerful PC, you may encounter a slew of issues with the game’s physics engine.
