Highway exits are essential features of Cities: Skylines. They often offer solutions to different issues and situations in the game.

In the following lines, you will be learning how to create a highway exit in Cities: Skylines. You will also see how to create highway exits easily for different situations and levels.

Note that the steps mentioned here are based on a situation where a complete, straight, and flat highway is present. However, you can apply these basic steps in more complex and different situations or levels.

Steps To Creating Highway Exits In Cities: Skylines

There is no doubt that creating highway exits in Cities: Skylines is complex, but with these steps, you can begin to do it with ease. Once you understand the principles in this guide, you can do much more than creating highway exits; you can also go ahead to create complex intersections in the game.

Step One: Create Guidelines

Using guidelines makes the creation of complex structures like highway exits simple and easy.

So as a first step, it would help if you mapped out a section of road five units long at 90 degrees to the highway and did so at both sides. Once these guideline roads have been established, the next thing is to create the highway ramp style parallel to the highway, which should be 50 units.

After doing this, you should create a guideline road and another marker road which would serve as our starting point.

Step Two: The First Overpass

To do this, you need to build a road twelve units long and nine meters high from ground level. Then extend the road by seven units up to the middle of the highway and the other end. You should also note that there should be a five-unit length distance between the highway and the parallel road.

Once this is done, the next thing is to build a circle whose radius must be the same as the extension’s length. Your circle should have a radius of six units. For the first part of the circle, create a semicircular road of six units on all sides with an angle of 90 degrees. The height should be six meters. Do this twice but reduce the height to three meters for the second one.

Continue to remove parts of the parallel road, but don’t forget to leave some road at both ends. For the last part of the circle, the measurements stay the same, six units, 90 degrees, and three meters to ground level. After this, you can extend the overpass to the parallel road.

At this point, your first overpass is ready.

Step Three: Second Overpass

Before building the second overpass, make sure to convert all the overpass roads to the highway ramp road type. The measurements for the first part of the second overpass are twelve units in length and nine meters from ground level. Extend this road to the middle of the highway and then to the other end.

To create the second circle, use a radius of eight by eight units and revive the height to three meters. The same thing should be done to the second part. For the final part, you can now connect the overpass to the remaining area of the adjacent street, and then all roads should be converted to highway ramp style.

Step Four: Finishing Touches

At this point, you are almost done. The only thing left is the finishing touches. You can begin with creating on and off-ramps at the other side before you develop another road. The road-building should be at both ends. Once that is complete, remove the parallel parts of the road at the other end. Then establish a connection using the sectors of the circle already created.

Convert all the connections to highway ramps, then remove the remaining guideline roads. Extend the road at all ends, and your highway exit is ready to be used.
