Elden Ring has a fantastic offline story mode to enjoy that can provide hundreds of hours of entertainment. However, following the FromSoftware trend, Elden Ring has blessed players with a great multiplayer mode to enjoy the game with their friends and fellow Tarnished.
There is a separate Multiplayer menu in Elden Ring that allows you to use certain items. Online items require you to start the game online for use. That sparked some curiosity regarding the use of online articles in offline mode. Let us see how to use Festering Bloody Finger offline in Elden Ring.
You cannot use the Festering Bloody Finger offline in Elden Ring. There are a number of reasons why some players cannot enjoy Elden Ring online. This may be due to poor connection, no PS Plus subscription, or maybe they committed the sin of pirating Elden Ring. If you needed to use the Bloody Finger for the White Mask Varre quest line, you would need to play Elden Ring online.
Bummer, right? Are there any loopholes to exploit and work around this wall? We suggest you keep reading to find out all you need to know about the Festering Bloody Finger and its offline use. Elden Ring can be quite vague at times. Which naturally spurs confusion in the community. Let us see how to use the Festering Bloody Finger offline without further ado.

How To Use Festering Bloody Finger Offline?
Being a multiplayer item, it might come as a surprise that the Festering Bloody Finger has an offline use. A lot of players have been locked out of the option due to them playing the game offline.
The frustration is quite warranted, especially when the game gives you little to do on. That is where we come in. Here is how to use the Festering Bloody Finger offline in Elden Ring:
Festering Bloody Finger
The Festering Bloody Finger in Elden Ring is a Multiplayer and Consumable item. The official description reads:
Item for online play.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)
Consumed upon use.
Attempts an invasion of another player’s world.
If successful, you will arrive as an invader (Bloody Finger) with the objective of defeating the Host of Fingers of that world.
This furled finger is blackened with blood congestion. It seems to have been chopped off rather unceremoniously.
The Festering Bloody Finger is used to invade another Elden Ring player’s world as a hostile invader. The invasion system is similar to the Souls series. These Bloody Fingers can be purchased from a number of sources like the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold, or the Nomadic Merchant in East Limgrave.
If you complete White Mask Varre’s quest, you get the Bloody Finger, which is a reusable item that allows unlimited invasions. However, there is a catch.
Using The Festering Bloody Finger Offline
We have established that the Festering Bloody Finger is an item intended to be used for Multiplayer. However, there is one point in the game when the Festering Bloody Finger creeps its way into the offline story of Elden Ring.
This happens during White Mask Varre’s character quest line. At a certain point in his quest line, you will need to complete three invasions in order to progress and get the reusable Bloody Finger. This, in our opinion, is bad game design as forced multiplayer in a single-player game for offline progression seems… crappy.
That is the use of the Festering Bloody Finger in the game’s offline mode.

How To Use Offline?
Unfortunately, there is no way to use the Festering Bloody Finger offline. Even if it is solely for the purpose of progressing Varre’s quest line, you will need an online connection to play the game in Online Multiplayer mode.
If you want to start the game in Online mode, the option can be selected at the startup menu and from within the game as well. Just make sure of the following in order to play multiplayer mode:
- Make sure you have a strong and stable Internet connection to enjoy Elden Ring online hassle-free
- Make sure you own a legitimate copy of the game (either physical or digital) in order to play online. Cracked versions (for shame!) will not support multiplayer
- If you are on PlayStation, you will require a PlayStation Plus subscription to play Elden Ring online.
Loopholes
As it stands, another option was included for the offline plebians as a generous gift from FromSoftware. Before patch 1.06, the White Mask Varre quest was a dead end unless you arranged for Internet connectivity and online mode.
However, with patch 1.06 a new invasion sign of the NPC Magnus the Beast Claw can be found in one of the ruined buildings in Writheblood Ruins, surrounded by a pack of bloodhounds. Once the NPC is defeated, the player can return to White Mask Varré at Rose Church to progress the quest.
This is handy for offline players.
