The open world of Elden Ring holds countless wonders and nightmares waiting to creep up on you when you least expect them to. FromSoftware took the cake and their latest entry to the lineup proved to be a home run. Be it the fantastic open world, the array of weapons and armor, or the beautiful soundtrack composition, Elden Ring arguably does most things right.
While the open world system is a fresh change of pace and exploration feels like a great thrill most of the time, it can oftentimes get confusing where you are supposed to go next. The fact that you need to progress the story and also not land in areas twenty levels above your set of skills makes it a harder task. If you have just defeated the Omen King and were wondering where to go after Morgott in Elden Ring, then this guide is for you!
There are a few choices lined up in front of you once you have defeated Morgott the Omen King in Leyndell, Royal Capital. If you want to continue the story, then you need to head to the Mountaintop of the Giants using the Grand Lift of Rold. If you are in the mood for some optional areas before continuing with the main story, then there are three good options in front of you.
Either you can head to the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds which opens up after defeating Morgott, or head to Volcano Manor to interact with some NPCs and take on a fun boss. Finally, you have the option of using the Grand Lift of Rold to head to the Consecrated Snowfield, which leads you to arguably one of the hardest and best fights in the entire game.
If you would like to know more about each of these areas and why they are good choices for you, we suggest you keep reading to find out. We will be sharing some useful tips for your next step after Morgott the Omen King. Without further ado, let us get right to it.

Which Way to Go After Morgott the Omen King?
Choosing your next destination might come simply to others, but there are plenty of players who struggle with navigating their next path. The confusion is only heightened when players decide whether they want to continue the story or just relax for a while with some optional areas. While we cannot guarantee relaxation, you will definitely find much to do in the areas mentioned below.
Morgott the Omen King
Morgott the Omen King is the true identity of Margit, the Fell Omen. He is a boss in Elden Ring who can be fought in Leyndell, Royal Capital. He is also referred to as Morgott the Grace Given. Defeating Morgott is essential to head to the next story area and take the final leap into the endgame content.
He plays a significant part in the lore of Elden Ring and is a fairly tough fight. If you managed to take him down, then pat yourself on the back and read ahead to find out what your next move should be.
Story Progression: Mountaintop of The Giants
“The fabled domain of the Giants, now in ruins. Devasted after their war against the Erdtree, their corpses lay frozen at the peak, with only the Fire Monks residing close by.”
First and foremost, let us talk about story progression. If you are excited to proceed with the main story of Elden Ring, then you should aim straight for the Mountaintop of the Giants by activating the Grand Lift of Rold. You will need the Rold Medallion to activate it which can be obtained from Melina once you have defeated Morgott.
Keep in mind that if somehow you manage to reach the Grand Lift of Rold before Morgott and Melina, you will be unable to access the lift itself. However, if you have defeated Morgott, then you have nothing to worry about.
The Grand Lift of Rold
The way to the Grand Lift of Rold is fairly straightforward, but there are some potential threats standing in your way. The smartest approach to this is to start from the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace. The Rold Route should be visible on the map by this point, but the path there might seem confusing.
The Avenue Balcony Site of Grace is a smart choice because it has a few enemies standing in your way, it is quite linear, and it is the shortest path considering the amount of effort it takes to reach the Grand Lift of Rold from here.
From the Site of Grace, head up the set of stairs that are right next to you. From there, all you need to do is turn left and keep walking forward until you reach a giant set of doors. If you have defeated the Omen King, the large gates should be ajar waiting for you to pass through them.
Here is where you need to exercise caution. There will be some stairs in front of you if you have made it this far. There are some weaker enemies and a more aggressive one at the back that may give you some trouble. It is easy to get overwhelmed so we recommend staying back and baiting the enemies one-by-one because avoiding them can prove to be a chore. Take your time, maybe use magic, and show them who’s boss!
From there, head up the stairs once the enemies have been taken care of. Turn left and you should reach an archway with a statue on either side of it. You have successfully made it to the Grand Lift of Rold. Walk ahead and activate it using the Rold Medallion. Once you have done so, you can travel to the Mountaintop of the Giants.
Fun Little Detour: Subterranean Shunning-Grounds
Fun fact: this is where Morgott was originally incarcerated before he decided to up his game and hand our asses to us a couple of times. There is much to do at the Subterranean Shunning Grounds and it is not that far from the path you take to get to the Grand Lift of Rold.
The Subterranean Shunning-Grounds location is found in Leyndell, Royal Capital (or Leyndell, Ashen Capital depending on how far you are in the game) and is accessible by teleporting to the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace. Descend the stairs and immediately turn left through the double grate doors.
First, walk to the rail, and then move northwest until the rooftops are directly on your left wing. Hop over the rail onto the rooftops, then descend into the galleria. From the galleria’s center, face due North. The well’s rustic structure will be visible between a dilapidated ruin and the walkway.
The Subterranean-Shunning grounds are a great choice after Morgott the Omen King because the area is more or less relevant to the boss. Terrifying rodents, interesting NPCs, and a brutal boss fight await you at the location. Not to mention, the boss has one of the coolest ways of executing moves in the entire game.
There are some items and key Ashes to be collected at the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds so heading there might be worthwhile before you proceed with the main story.

Another Fun Little Detour: Volcano Manor
This is one of the more unique locations on this list because of how it plays out. If you so choose, a big chunk of the quests and contents can be done outside the actual Volcano Manor itself. Volcano Manor serves as a hub for NPCs and contains an interesting boss fight which is quite in theme with the area.
How to Get There?
There are three ways that you can reach Volcano Manor if you have not been there already.
Altus Plateau
Firstly, you can reach Volcano Manor from Altus Plateau. From the Altus Plateau Site of Grace, travel south to the main road and follow it, taking the northeast branch from the junction. You’ll reach the Forest-Spanning Greatbridge Site of Grace with a merchant and Finger Reader Crone. From there, follow the main road north and then toward the east. There should be a gate nearby that leads you off course that you should ignore.
Cross a wooden bridge and hit up the Bridge of Iniquity Site of Grace, then go northeast into an area patrolled by Iron Virgins. There is an invasion nearby and there is an Incantation in the Corpse-Stench Shack that might be worth your time.
There is a ladder south of the Shack that you need to ascend to reach a Site of Grace at Mt. Gelmir. Ignore the frenzied enemies in front of you and keep running forward along the narrow path.
Once you jump down to a campsite and fight off a Grafted Scion, you will need to take the ladder in front of you and ascend. Take the next ladder to your left, keep heading forward across a camp of frenzied enemies and then descend the plateau. Look for the bridge, and then either take the ladder or use your Spiritspring Jump to head downward. Keep heading down in the northwest direction past some Trolls and you will find yourself face to face with Volcano Manor. An exhausting trip from this far, but worth it.
Abductor Virgins
Bloodborne fans are bound to be familiar with this teleportation trick. Much like the Snatchers in Bloodborne that take you to the Hypogean Gaol, the Abductor Virgins take you to a specific part of Volcano Manor. It should be noted that using this method will force you to face a rather difficult boss in the process, so proceed with caution.
If you decide to spare Patches and converse with him at the Scenic Isle, he will mention an Abductor Virgin at the Raya Lucaria Academy that has teleportation abilities. Head over there and locate the water wheel elevator, just west of the Schoolhouse Classroom Site of Grace. Take it to the bottom and get killed by the Abductor Virgin in this area. You must be killed by a specific attack where it traps you in its iron maiden-like body.
You will wake up in Volcano Manor. Platform over the lava and make your way southeast, dropping down wherever needed until you reach a stone structure. Activate the Site of Grace up the stairs because you have no other way of coming back to this point without it.
Proceed forward until you reach a small cave that drops you down another level. You will soon come face to face with the Abductor Virgins boss fight. Use their Site of Grace upon defeat to travel out of the location and head to Volcano Manor from the Seethwater River Site of Grace.
Rya’s Questline
The final way to reach this location is by completing the first mission of Rya’s questline. You can find her at Liurnia of the Lakes, east of the Scenic Isle Site of Grace where she will ask you to retrieve a precious necklace.
Complete her request and she will give you an Invitation to Volcano Manor, and let you in on where to find her next. She will then be found at the top of the Grand Lift of Dectus (if you have found both halves of the Dectus Medallion) or at Lux Ruins (if you have not completed the medallion). If you converse with her, she will teleport you right into the lobby next to Tanith.

Why Volcano Manor?
There is an abundant amount of NPCs at Volcano Manor that will make for a nice distraction once you have defeated Morgott the Omen King. There are a lot of assassination missions that might be to your liking. Lastly, Volcano Manor is ideal to be done around the same time as Morgott. There is much to do and even a boss to keep you entertained.
The Good Stuff: Consecrated Snowfield
“The route through this land, crossed east to west by a frozen river, leads to Miquella’s Haligtree. This is the path taken by those unchosen, though it is a trial all the same.”
Let us get to the titular good stuff. The Consecrated Snowfield lies just a level below the Mountaintop of the Giants and takes the same initial path: the Grand Lift of Rold. However, to access the Consecrated Snowfield, you need both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion.
Haligtree Secret Medallion (Right) is found in Liurnia of the Lakes. Haligtree Secret Medallion (Left) is found in Mountaintops of the Giants. Therefore, it might be worthwhile visiting the Grand Lift of Rold again after having made your way to the Mountaintop of The Giants.
Select the Hoist Secret Medallion option at the Grand Lift of Rold and it will take you to the Consecrated Snowfield. The area itself is quite unremarkable but it connects you to a bigger and far more significant area that contains exciting battles, history, and deep lore crucial to the story of Elden Ring.
The boss fight of the area is fantastic, to say the least, and will keep you occupied for quite a while. May luck be on your side, soldier. Give it a go before heading to the Mountaintop of the Giants for some endgame practice.
