For years, League of Legends has been one of the most popular MOBAs to play. You have thousands playing it, and even more wondering if they’re able to play it. In other words, those individuals who have MACs have been wondering if they can run League of Legends (I know, this because I receive many questions regarding running LoL on a MAC from people) and for this reason, I have decided to answer the question out in the open.
MAC Is good at professional and office work and when it comes to gaming, it doesn’t really fit in, but don’t run off just yet because that doesn’t mean what you think it means.
Can I Play League of Legends with a MAC?
If you’re in the United States, and you want to play League of Legends on your MAC, then you are in luck. I’m saying this, because MAC supposed League of Legends, but only within the United States portal. However, if you’re outside of the United States and you own a MAC, I’m sorry because you won’t be able to play League of Legends on your MAC if you’re not in the US Portal.
Time to Run Two Different Operating Systems
If you’re serious and you really want to play League of Legends on your MAC, there is something you need to do. You need to download and install the Windows OS. Basically, your MAC will be running two different operating systems, but that’s okay because it can handle it.
When it comes to games, if you put a Windows PC and a MAC side by side and compare them, Windows is going to take home the prize. This is why many gamers choose to go with a Windows-powered device. However, this doesn’t mean if you own a MAC, you can’t enjoy any game. It just means there are some things you will need to do before you’re able to run the game. Unlike with a Windows PC, basically, all you have to do is download the game, and you’re good to go (the only hard thing is paying for the game).
As long as your MAC device meets the criteria, you should be able to play LoL.
Requirements for Playing League of Legends on MAC
Of course, your MAC will need to be in good condition and you will require a strong and stable Internet connections. League of Legends has some other requirements to ensure lag-free operation. If you have a poor Internet connection, you won’t really be able to enjoy your game.
Before you launch League of Legends on your MAC, double check and make sure your MAC meets these pre-requisites:
- Processor – a 3GHz processor that is capable of powering SSE2 direction set or anything above this.
- Free Space – You will need to have at least 5GB of free space on your hard drive in order to fit the game.
- RAM – 2GB RAM or higher. If you have a device that is higher than 2GB RAM, then that is even better.
- Graphics Card – NVIDIA GeForce 8600M, ATI Radeon HD 2600 or anything higher
- Screen Resolutions – 1920×1200 pixels.
Side note: When downloading the entire client installation for League of Legends to different devices, if you’re having issues, you may need to create your cache server and use your network to feed the files of the game.
Getting Your Device Ready to Play League of Legends
The MAC Operating System has default settings that will make for weak performance when you’re playing a game like League of Legends. So what you need to do is go into those settings and toggle off those configurations as you run League of Legends. This will help prevent interruptions as you’re in the LOL game client.
Using Your Mouse Pointer
On MAC devices, you can shake the mouse back and forth to find the mouse pointer. When you shake the mouse back and forth, the mouse pointer will slowly expand and show you where it is. Something like this can really wreck havoc when you have the LoL game client open. In fact, using this feature may suspend LoL, so you will want to disable this feature.
To disable the mouse pointer feature, go to the Apple menu and at the top left side, you’ll see ‘System Preferences.” Go ahead and click on System Preferences. Once you do this, choose Accessibility Display, which is located on the left. Once you get there, all you have to do is locate the option that says “shake your mouse to locate the pointer” and remove the check on it.
What are “Hot Corners?”
Hot Corners are a special feature on MAC devices. With this feature, you can hove your cursor to the edge of the screen and it will show more features for you. This is how you can perform certain actions, such as putting your system on rest, transferring to desktop and so on. Some MAC users have reported problems and bugs with Hot Corners that occurred while they were using the League of Legends game client.
For this reason, you should turn the Hot Corners feature off before you start playing League of Legends. You can turn the feature off by once again going into the Apple menu – on the left, click on System Preferences. From there, click on the Desktop and Screensaver – ScreenSaver – Hot Corners. You can adjust the preferences for the Hot Corners feature. You can edit them in this option or simply make some adjustment keys.
After you take all of the steps so that you can play League of Legends on your MAC, don’t forget to look over your MAC for any applications that may be hogging resources. You can use a cleaner that is specifically designed for the MAC in order to do this. By doing this, you will be freeing up RAM and memory that you will need when you’re playing League of Legends on your MAC.
